Know Your Shutoffs
When a pipe bursts, the first minute matters. Here are the three shutoffs every homeowner should be able to find in the dark.
Usually at the meter near the street, or where the main line enters the home. One quarter-turn stops all water.
A cold-water valve on top of the tank (or a flexible line into the tankless unit). Closes off heater supply without killing the rest of the home.
Small angle valves under each sink, behind each toilet, and behind the washer. Lets you isolate one fixture without losing whole-home water.
Septic Or Sewer?
